Curriculum:

The topics for the lessons support the newly updated Alabama State Course of Study. During each lesson, students will be working with manipulatives, drawing on white boards, working in groups to solve problems, and playing games. We plan for this to be a fun, engaging, hands-on experience for the students.

 

First Graders:

​

There will be one day on each of the following topics:

• Number Operations

  • Place values

  • Counting sequences

• Algebra

  • Adding and Subtracting 2 digit numbers

  • Adding and Subtracting in equations

• Measurement

  • Telling time

  • Measuring length

• Geometry

  • Shapes and their attributes

• Last Day will be Competition Day

 

Second Graders:

There will be one day on each of the following topics:

• Number Operations

  • Adding and Subtracting 2 digit numbers

  • Adding and Subtracting money

  • Multiplication as a series of adding.

• Algebra

  • Create patterns

  • Solving for numbers

• Geometry

  • Line of symmetry

  • Recognizing shapes

• Measurements

  • Telling Time

• Last Day will be Competition Day.

 

Third Graders:

 

There will be one day on each of the following topics:

• Number Operations

  • Multiplying and Dividing 2 digit numbers

• Algebra

  • Geometric/Number Patterns

• Measurements

  • Telling Time

• Geometry

  • Parallel/Perpendicular Lines

  • Coordinate Grids.

• Last Day will be Competition Day.

 

Fourth Graders:

 

There will be one day on each of the following topics:

• Number Operations

  • Fractions

  • Decimals

• Algebra

  • Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, & Division Operations

  • Word problems

• Measurements

  • Converting measurements from larger units to smaller units

  • Geometric measurements

• Geometry

  • Drawing lines and angles

  • Classifying shapes by properties

• Last Day will be Competition Day

 

Fifth Graders:

There will be one day on each of the following topics:

• Number Operations

  • Fractions

  • Place values

  • Operations with multi-digit whole numbers & decimals

• Algebra

  • Numerical Expressions

  • Sequences

• Measurements

  • Converting like measurement units

  • Volume

• Geometry

  • Graphing points

  • Classifying two-dimensional figures based on properties

• Last Day will be Competition Day
